4 SHELTER WHEEL VALVE KIT (FOR 2 PAIRS OF WHEELS)

Shelter Wheel Kit consists of adhesive washers: slipped over the valve, they stick to the rim and elegantly and almost invisibly prevent vibrations or annoying noises.
The Kit is also ideal for balancing wheels, with the added vibration-reducing effect of the visco-elastic material.
Shelter Wheel Kit

STRENGTHS:

  • eliminates annoying noises in the valve area, especially on high-profile rims
  • Shelter washers can be used to balance wheels
  • the visco-elastic behavior of the material reduces the propagation of vibrations

CHARACTERISTICS:

How to make valves silent:
Shelter Wheel Kits slip over the valve, stick to the rim and elegantly and almost invisibly prevent vibrations or annoying noises.
The resealable bag ensures that unused washers retain their properties even for subsequent applications. Once the Shelter washers are glued to the rim, the valve can be removed and reinserted without losing the precious "silence." This is the simplest function of the Shelter Wheel Kit, but there's much more.
No one would drive a sports car without carefully balancing the wheels once the tires were installed. In cycling, today's high-performance wheels, perhaps equipped with ceramic bearings and lightweight carbon rims, cannot reveal their full potential without proper balancing. It's a simple operation that requires a Shelter Wheel Kit, a wheel stand (on a bench... or an upside-down bicycle),
a little patience and a few minutes of your time.

Much nicer and effective than electrical tape to silence valves on high-end wheels
Much more effective (and elegant) than tape for silencing valves on high-end rims
How to balance wheels:

Mount the tire and brake disc (if applicable) so that the wheel is ready for use.

IMPORTANT: If you have a tubeless wheel, make sure there is very little or no sealant inside (it can be added after balancing). Liquid sealant distributes evenly during pedaling, but it can interfere with static balancing.

Place the wheel on a truing stand and make sure it can turn freely.

Spin the wheel with a gentle push. After a few complete rotations in the direction of the push, the wheel will enter a pendulum phase in which it will make partial rotations back and forth. Behaving like a pendulum, the excess mass on the wheel is subject to a
Gravitational force accelerates the wheel toward the equilibrium point. The amplitude of these oscillations decreases until the wheel stops: the lowest point is the equilibrium point, where the excess mass is located. Wheels often stop with the valve at the lowest point…
but sometimes an uneven distribution of weight on the tire prevails, so the heaviest point may be found elsewhere.
Keeping the lowest point of the wheel as a reference, identify the opposite point on the circumference of the rim (you can do this with a ruler, aligned with the lowest point and the center of the hub) and glue a Shelter washer here.
Repeat the process from point .1. Each time the heaviest point may move slightly (due to friction in the hub) but will remain approximately within a position range of +-10 cm.
The wheel is balanced when, when you spin it, IT STOPS WITHOUT STARTING THE PENDULUM PHASE, therefore without reversing the direction of rotation. When you spin the wheel subsequently, it will stop at a random point on the bottom of the wheel, influenced by the friction in the hub.

Shelter washers can be glued one on top of the other, or one next to the other, on top of the rim or on the sides (depending on the size / profile of the rim).

A neat trick, though not always possible, is to find a spoke near the lightest point and glue the washer around the nipple, after cutting it on one side with scissors.

Each washer weighs approximately 1 g. Typical wheel imbalance values require 4 to 12 grams of counterweight.

Visco-elasticity reduces vibrations:

The transmission of vibrational energy through any structure can be reduced by adding visco-elastic elements in certain areas. This is exactly what Shelter does, not only protecting rigid carbon frames from impacts but also reducing vibrations.

THE KIT INCLUDES 4 ADHESIVE VALVE WASHERS!
